Easton Police Arrest Man in Alleged Road Rage Incident
EASTON — Chief Gary Sullivan reports that Easton Police arrested and charged a man following an alleged road rage incident on Wednesday.
JOSEPH RIVARD, AGE 21, OF BROCKTON was charged with Assault and Battery on a Person Over Age 60 and Disturbing the Peace.
He was arraigned Wednesday in Taunton District Court and was released on several conditions following a dangerousness hearing this morning.
At approximately noon on Wednesday, Easton Police officers responded to the parking lot of North Easton Savings Bank, 547 Washington St., for a report of an assault in progress.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, a 71-year-old Medford man. RIVARD had allegedly punched the victim in the face several times following a road rage incident.
During an on-scene investigation, officers learned that RIVARD had attempted to pass the victim’s vehicle while both men were traveling westbound on Belmont Street, during which time the vehicles made contact and minor damage was caused.
RIVARD then pursued the victim into the bank parking lot, where he allegedly exited his vehicle and began banging on the the victim’s vehicle with his fists.
When the victim stepped out of his vehicle, RIVARD began punching him in the face several times. In order to defend himself, the victim fought back was able to stop RIVARD from attacking him.
The victim was treated for lacerations on his face by Easton Fire Department paramedics on scene.
RIVARD had minor swelling under his left eye, but did not require medical treatment. He was placed under arrest by Officers Chris LaCount and Tim Webster without further incident.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
